Have you heard about the KN car company?

Me neither, however, I have heard about the KIA car company!

Well if you’re not like me and you go outside every day you’ve probably seen a new car company on the street with a logo that spells or depicts KN. Well, my fellow outside-worlders, that's not KN but it's KIA’s new logo!

KIA is owned by Hyundai, the company that makes luxurious but affordable cars in South Korea. However, luxury cars don’t sell in volumes so what Hyundai needed was something that sells in volumes. They could not sell cheap cars under their brand name as their brand was positioned as a luxury brand. Therefore, Hyundai acquired KIA in 1998 to be their budget-friendly brand.

KIA is owned by Hyundai

You know, how budget-friendly brands especially with cars focus on practicality, build quality, durability, and all the other boring aspects of a car? Imagine all those aspects and multiply it by 10000 and you get KIA. For almost 20 years KIA was regarded as the most boring car company that sold good cars, yes but it was something that people were not proud to own or show off. After all, if you buy a car, you’d like to show it off. They mostly sold cars in fleets for offices or taxis and police vehicles around the world. Most importantly, we believe their brand design, logo, website design, and how they described their cars made them much more boring.

KIA Cars of 2010 and 2012

Their old logo was bland, had no innovative design and it followed the design of logos that were followed in the 70s or 80s. Their website had gradients eek! Along with a basic blocky and tacky design. They were extremely successful to become the most boring company and very rarely did Hyundai, their parent company, show that they were owned by them. However, everything was about to change for the medium…

Their new website and car configurator are extremely fun to play around with and explore. It's much easier to find what you are looking for on their site and it looks so good! Their new idea is exploring the unknown through their SUVs, Hybrid, and Electric cars. This reflects in their design of using navy blue which looks like the ocean which is reminiscent of the unknown. Every channel that they are present in carries this new and exciting design and finally Hyundai is proud of their bastard son. Now let's talk about the elephant in the room, their logo, and what were they thinking. I mean the new logo looks great and all, but I can write it here look, KN, boom done that's the KIA logo where the A! This new logo is so confusing that 30,000 people googled KN car company and in all honesty, when I first saw the logo I thought KIA renamed themselves as KN which would have been fine, there are weirder car company names.

Alas, KIA will remain a car company that's confused with its identity for the time being. But they should have gotten a second opinion on their new logo and they can still fix it just by adding 0.2 cents worth of aluminum on the middle of their N.
