RIP Twitter?

Twitter's Rebranding Is Making Headlines, Literally.

So you might have seen that Twitter logo is slowly being phased out starting today. What does that mean? Well remember what Mark did with Meta? That's what's happening. We here at Yellow Raptor are all for rebranding stuff but not all the time. When a brand is being phased out or a brand just needs a refresh like Meta did, after a whistleblower scandal and the introduction of the Metaverse, Facebook needed a rebranding.

Twitter on the other hand is a brand that has not lost its relevance in the markets it operates in. Everyone in the western world is on Twitter. Many use it to receive instant updates on a variety of important topics. All the famous people are on it and so on and so forth. The point here is that Twitter has not died or has suffered a scandal nor has it been exposed by a whistleblower. The brand is doing good as far as we are concerned.

With Elon Musk at the helm, it's hard to really grasp what’s going on in his head. For example he just recently hired a kid to spear head his IT division. Not to mention his purchase of Twitter almost seemed like an impulse purchase like we do when we go to Jamuna or Bashundhara. To Elon it was as simple as buying a t-shirt from Artisan. If Twitter does rebrand into ‘X’ it might not be the best idea.

The first problem is that the Tweets will now be called ‘Xs’ so instead of retweeting people will now be forced to say re-xed or something to that extent. This change is extremely jarring and sudden and it might shake some people to the core. Moreover, changing the iconic logo is a big no no. The bird fits seamlessly on the platform and people have a strong brand association with the logo at hand. Our take on Twitter’s new logo is that it looks really basic, X, in the age of Sigmas and what not seems too cliched.

Elon’s attempt at reshaping Twitter is becoming much more half baked and rushed as his ventures with Tesla were. So it might not be the wisest decision to rush into such a jarring change. However, this just happened, so we can't be certain of a lot of things. Only time will tell if Twitter did the right thing to change its identity.
